One surprise regarding used flagship cars is the difficulty in finding random interior bits.

The XJ has been my daily, so in the pre-Covid days I put quite a lot of miles on it. Turns out the sun visors don’t like constant use (they’re needed to hold up the OEM sun shade) and the driver’s side literally flopped down and refused to go back up.

New units from JLR were $700........ each . Fortunately, the shop was able to source some from another car, but supply and demand dictates that it still wouldn’t be cheap.

While we were at it, I finally had all the curb rash repaired. You can only tell if you know where to look. It’s nice to finally have the car whole, more than two years after buying it with ITA97’s help. Fingers crossed it stays this way for a while.

When I called up the shop to check on the car, the owner actually gave me a scare by mistaking me for another customer. “Yeah, you’ve got coolant leaking at the manifold and at the radiator...”

They say one does not escape the exotic car mechanic for under $1k, so with this car being not quite exotic, I got out for under $1k.

I called a company in my area recently to see the cost of having my volvo wheels straightened and have some curb rash repaired. It was $175 each to straighten and fix the rash. I bought new (different) wheels for $180 each, instead

Even higher-profile tires would lessen the curbing a lot, and of course they would provide a better ride too . But marketing has clearly concluded that everybody these days, from a Corolla to a Phantom, is willing to trade that practicality for looks.

My lexus has curb rash repaired before I bought it. But they must not have put very good paint on it, because once the car got washed you could see where it had it and weird marking. I wanna get it refinished properly, but that will be a cool 1k for it all and I refuse to do it. Since it all currently looks fine.

Yep that sounds about right. We made a deal because one was worse and the other three were very minor.

Yep, my previous F355 had some really crappy touch-up paint applied to two of its wheels . My detailer polished it down so that it actually looks flush with the wheel contour, but you can still obviously see the hack job because the paint was not a good match . Since the wheels were protected, I didn’t bother with redoing it.

This guy was pro and it shows . The paint is a perfect match and the only way you can tell is if significant wheel material was actually lost in a curbing (depending on the shape , you may be able to putty it back ).

Yeah, it is mostly like an outline in the rim, it kinda looks like a water spot ish but its whatever lol. If I keep the rims dirty you can't see it.

Yeah if that minor I wouldn’t fix it either!
